Built for Portland rain

It doesn't drizzle here. It dumps.

Every storm, your gutters are the only thing standing between a roof full of water and your foundation. Here's what they're up against, straight from NOAA's 30-year climate normals.

And then there's the fir needles.

Douglas firs, cedars, maples, moss: the Northwest's prettiest trees are your gutters' worst enemies. Fir needles come down all year, pile up in the gutter, soak up water, and turn into a soggy mat that plugs the flow and clogs your downspouts.

Raindrop sits at a pitch, like a continuation of your roof, so fir needles and leaves keep moving off the edge instead of piling up on top.

Will a few fir needles still get through? Yep. Who cares. It's a tiny amount, it washes down the downspout, and it doesn't cause problems. We keep the big crap out and let the water in. Nobody can keep every speck out and still let the most water in, so it's a balance.

Under heavy fir drop, we can also add Raindrop's Wide Mouth downspout outlet, a wider, snag-free opening that helps the little stuff flush on through.

7+ years on roofs & gutters
From the guy on your roof

I hated gutter guards for years. Now I install them.

Here's what changed my mind.

I've spent more than seven years cleaning and maintaining roofs and gutters around here. For most of that time, I thought gutter guards were an overpriced rip-off. I kept climbing up to clogged, hard-to-service systems, and I kept meeting frustrated homeowners who'd paid good money for them.

Even the ones I actually liked, the sturdy stainless micro-mesh guards with aluminum frames, could clog up with fine debris. Then the rain ran right over the top instead of into the gutter. I was about ready to give up on guards altogether.

Then I found Raindrop. It's not magic, and it's not maintenance-free. But in my experience it's the best balance I've found: it keeps the big crap out, lets the water in, and stays practical to maintain.

“I wouldn't be standing here recommending gutter guards if I hadn't finally found a system I believe in. I stand behind what I install.”— Shane, Sedona Home Services

Why other guards fail

Why so many guards end up clogged anyway.

No brand-bashing, just what I've seen on years of maintenance calls. Every guard is trying to keep junk out and let water in. Here's where the common designs come up short in a wet, needle-heavy place like Portland.

Clogs on top

Fine mesh & micro-mesh

They try to keep everything out. Even good, sturdy stainless mesh can get a film of pollen, roof grit and fir needle bits, until rain sheets right over the top and you're back on the ladder scrubbing screens.

Overshoots

Hoods & curved covers

They count on water clinging to a curved lip. In a real downpour, fast water can shoot right past it and over the gutter, especially once that lip gets grimy.

Traps debris inside

Foam inserts

Water soaks through, but needles, seeds and grit get stuck in and on the foam. It holds moisture, can sprout weeds, and eventually has to be pulled out and cleaned or replaced.

Snags needles

Brush inserts

Fir needles weave right into the bristles. Instead of scooping a gutter, now you're pulling out heavy, dripping brushes and picking them clean.

Lifts & sags

Cheap snap-in screens

They lay flat, so debris just sits there. Flimsy ones can warp, pop loose, or tear and unravel, sometimes within the first season.

Starves the gutter

Guards that let too little in

If the openings are too small or too few, your gutter can't swallow a hard rain fast enough. The water goes over the edge and down your siding, the exact thing gutters are supposed to stop.

Raindrop flips the script. Instead of trying to block everything, it keeps out the stuff that actually clogs a gutter (leaves, fir needle mats, big debris) and lets the tiny, non-clogging grit wash on through with the water. And because it's sloped, debris keeps moving off instead of piling up on top.

Why Raindrop®

Tough. Sloped. Basically invisible.

Raindrop has been going on homes since 2000. Here's why it's the only guard we'll put our name on.

Sheds debris, doesn't hold it

It's installed at a pitch, as a continuation of your roof, so fir needles and leaves keep moving off the edge instead of sitting on top.

High-flow design

The open grid breaks up the water and lets heavy rain pour right in, even at busy roof valleys, which Raindrop says is where a lot of guards struggle.

Car-bumper tough

A UV-stabilized polypropylene blend, not vinyl. It doesn't absorb water, so it won't mold or rot, and it bends and bounces back instead of denting or shattering.

Virtually invisible

It's black and low-profile, so from the street it looks like a shadow line at the roof edge, not a bulky cover bolted onto your house.

Fits your existing gutters

Works on every roof style and fits standard 5″ and 6″ gutters. The Flex-Flange can be modified to fit 4″ to 10″. No new gutters required.

Kind to your roof

It fastens to the front lip of the gutter and is never nailed down through your roof. Per Raindrop, going under the first course of shingles doesn't void your roof warranty, and it can go in drop-in style instead.

Fights ice, too

The dark surface soaks up winter sun to help melt snow and ice so water keeps flowing. (Shady north-side trouble spots may still need heat cable.)

Miters & end caps

Outside-corner miters make a smooth, closed transition around corners, and aluminum end caps seal off the ends against birds, bees, squirrels and other critters.

20-year warranty

Raindrop backs it with a registered 20-year limited, transferable manufacturer warranty, and we back our install for as long as we're in business. See the details ↓

What clogged gutters really cost

"I'll clean 'em next weekend" gets expensive.

A clogged gutter doesn't just overflow. It dumps roof water down your siding, into your fascia, and right at your foundation. Here's what the cleanup can run.

FAQ

Questions? Good.

Do Raindrop gutter guards work with Douglas fir needles?

That's what we install them for. Raindrop sits at a pitch like a continuation of your roof, so most fir needles and leaves roll right over and off instead of piling up on top. Honest answer: a few needles can get through. It's a tiny amount, it washes down the downspout, and it doesn't cause problems. Nobody can keep every speck out and still let the most water in, so it's a balance: keep the big stuff out, let the water in. Under heavy fir drop we can also add Raindrop's Wide Mouth downspout outlet so the little stuff flushes on through.

How much do gutter guards cost?

It depends on how many feet of gutter you have, your roofline and corners, and how tricky the roof is to work on. Estimates are always free: send us your address through the form and we'll look up your home and get you a number, no sales visit required.

Will I ever have to clean my gutters again?

Raindrop is built so debris slides off and small grit washes through to the downspout, so the scooping-muck-out-of-the-gutter routine mostly goes away. No gutter guard can honestly promise zero maintenance under every tree. Gutter guards reduce the dirty work, not the need to care for your roof. If you want, we offer an optional yearly maintenance visit: roof debris removal, light moss treatment, a gutter guard inspection and clearing, and downspout checks.

What's the warranty on Raindrop gutter guards?

Raindrop backs the product with a 20-year limited, transferable manufacturer warranty, and we register it for you. Ask us about extended coverage. On top of that, we give you lifetime support through us, for as long as we're in business: if a screw pops, a section lifts or curls, a piece is defective, or the water flow needs adjusting, we come out and fix it free. That doesn't cover outside damage, like a tree falling on the gutter. Coverage details are written out with your quote.

How long does gutter guard installation take?

An average home takes about a day, and some take two. Every install starts with a full cleanout of your existing gutters, included in the price. You don't need to be home, as long as we can get to the gutters.

Will gutter guards damage my roof or shingles?

No. Raindrop fastens to the front lip of your gutter, and the back edge is never nailed down through your roof. According to Raindrop, installing a guard under the first layer of shingles does not void your roof warranty. If you'd rather it not go under the shingles at all, it can be installed drop-in style.

Can Raindrop handle heavy Portland rain?

That's the whole point of the design. Raindrop's open grid breaks up the water, and the high-flow design lets heavy rain pour right in, even at busy roof valleys. We've tested it on camera with a hose right next to other guard styles, and the water goes in, not over.

Do I need new gutters to get gutter guards?

Usually not. Raindrop fits standard 5-inch and 6-inch gutters and can be adapted to fit 4-inch to 10-inch gutters. If yours are in rough shape, we'll tell you before anything goes on.

Isn't it just cheap plastic?

Nope. It's a UV-stabilized polypropylene blend, not vinyl, the same family of material used in car bumpers. It doesn't absorb water, has a high melting point, and flexes back instead of cracking.
